Yes, according to today's Independent the retailers are trying to ensure that consumers take the packaging home and then they have to dispose of it rather than the shops. it saves them lots of money.

 

Fine-except that in the IOM we have not got the facilities to dispose of cardboard, packaging and tins etc as they have in other places in Europe. So we are feeding the Beast of Richmond Hill with resources that should be recycled.

Well the island is really in a great postion here because we could bring in a full recycling scheme if government allowed it.

 

The dutch recycle around 65% of the rubbish they create and burn the rest.

 

I know some people see the energy from waste plant as a blot on the landscape but it really is the best way to dispose of the rubbish that cannot be recycled.

 

Even the green parties are seeing that burnig waste is the better way for things that cannot be recycled.

 

The government have really done very little to encourage the recycling, after all this is an island and the lest we create the better for us now and the future.
