Aren't all of eddie119's examples examples of how government's can't run things. Slagging off Australian Bankers is all very well, but they need to make a profit and that means providing a competitive service.

There is no way whatsoever I want Tony Brown's minions running the ferry service - a massive retrograde step.

What he said!

After the recent examples of Government run businesses e.g. Crowe EPH, massive overrun on hospital budget, MEA Fiasco, Tourism Grants, Pension black hole etc etc, I would hate to see what sort of mess they would make of a shipping line!

I am not a mariner, but my understanding of boats is that if you get a whole in it will sink, Apparently the whole is 18ft long by 6ft deep, its a big whole, and i doubt if the size of the whole will not be of any concern to a group of australian bankers,( apart from the whole in the profits ), the only way we will ever have a reliable service is if the manx goverment take control over it, lets face it if they hadn`t of wasted all the money on the goverment enquiries on the likes of mount murray enquiry and the cheif constable commisioning a u.k company to tell us how good the police force is, and the electricity board enquiry ,we could have a bloody cruise liner on the route by now at an affordable cost, instead of these bloody come-day-go-day companies out for a quick buck at our expence, The manx people just wont say boo to a bloody goose, come on wake up !

Edited to provide original quotation!

They are running out boats for fucks sake, they are running wrecks to sail,we are running out of airlines, the goverment is runing out of money, give up the fantacy, we need commonsense to continue our heritage which you are obviously lacking, and if your`e a come over then please go back to whence you came, You toss pot,

Eddie, who is running out of boats? They wouldn't be using wrecks to sail and the airline industry has been in turmoil for years, exacerbated by 9/11 apparently and the IOM has retained its triple A rating and has substantial reserves.

We can all fire off at the hip, but just slow down. Our lifeline is the Ben, which stoically plies the Irish Sea four times a day.

Hey, look on the bright side, it could be the other fella's fault, in which case we can see a bit of compie!

We have more air services to more locations than 10 years ago. Check out the inflation report (Here) in real terms Air and Sea travel are cheaper today than in 2000. The government has a Triple A credit rating.

You are talking out of your arse.

Yes, it could be a lot worse, and has been. It ain't so bad here now, you know. I'm sure quite a few of us remember when there was real unemployment, no prospect of any change and the tourist industry falling away like sand through your hand, with a new financial services sector being heavily hit with the odd scandal. The IOM has done a lot since those days to pull itself out of the mire and put itself squarely as a robust economy.

For as long as I can remember the Steammie has been the devil incarnate as far as the island is concerned, even when it was majority government owned.

Running round like Chicken Little screaming 'the sky's falling, the sky's falling' isn't very productive, nor does it demonstrate a particularly mature attitude. We have to wait, wait until fault is established and wait until the Steammie decides how to respond. Then we can run around like headless chickens calling for the resignation of everyone, including the lollypop man in Finch Road!

Has Mec Vannin returned?

The spelling and socialist invective coupled with personal insults?

He's referring to a former poster who used the name Mec Vannin, not the political party.
