Rushen Spy
People are being thick as two planks when they react to this as if it's Trump who started this. You can argue over why a US embassy is even in Baghdad (it's been there since before Trump became president; and it should be remembered that he opposed the invasion of Iraq) but it the Iranian regime attacked the embassy. Trump's hand was forced at that point. That being said, this is not going to escalate into a war so people can please stop getting overly excited. As much of a danger to world-peace and goodwill as Osama bin Laden was. This qualifies his assassination imo. The list of Iranian involvement in state sponsored terrorism in other countries, since the islamic revolution of 1979, is a long one. It's all well documented. Historically, the old guard and the mullahs have wreaked havoc. Live by the sword... Trump's annoyed all the right people. This action was bait.

This is all true but the presence of a powerful military leader is an important moderating balance to the religious whims of the ayatollah. It could be that his successor is not quite up to the job.
