It might be worth updating your knowledge on the sex offender tag

...

Strange that - the press were very quick to condem but not so quick to update you when further info came to light...

"In many cases, the card details were stolen; the sites contained nothing or legal material only; and the people who allegedly signed up to visit the sites never went there."

All very well and good, but didn't Townshend admit that, unlike some of the wrongly accused mentioned above, he'd used his credit card to gain access to actual child pornography, albeit as research?

One question I haven't seen asked is to what purpose this research was aimed - I mean what amount, if any, porn involving kids does a person really have to view before they can arrive at the conclusion that it's utterly reprehensible? I would have thought none.

"To fight against paedophilia, you have to know what's out there," he said, so clearly admitted it. The Guardian article may be right that some were falsely accused but Townsend wasn't one of em.

You exactly right, we all know what child porn is, we don't need to subscribe to a child porn site to educate ourselves.

Strange to judge really? And I don't condone child pornography at all.

There is a thing called curiosity of which we are all guilty. Nobody knows what is in the mind of someone when they view things so are we entitled to judge on circumstance?

The whole thing is tackled from the wrong end and fairly innocuous people are being locked up for mere titilation or curiosity. It probably prevents them from actually commiting more serious offences??

The real criminals are the producers of this stuff as usual!!

In this case, I think it's justified. The man didn't casually find some child porn on the net, he subscribed to a child porn site. He paid someone to provide the pictures, thus contributing to the problem.

Did you really say that?

These criminals wouldn't produce the stuff if there wasn't consumers. The consumers are providing the funds that make the exploitation worth while.
