Another Waste Of Douglas Ratepayers Cash!

And why do litter bins have to be emptied on a sunday when it is 'double time' ??

At a guess, I would say it's because they get filled up quickly over the weekend and they want them all empty before the week begins. And also possibly because there is less traffic (humans and cars) on a Sunday so they can get to them more easily. Oh, and perhaps they use the rest of the bin staff emptying company and house bins the rest of the week. Just guessing, mind.

So do you happen to know why Ballymoney was chosen for Douglas? Wouldn't the capital of a small country have been more logical?

Hi Politician

According to an above post by Albert Tatlock we are not "twinned" we only have a friendship agreement with Ballymoney!!

Probably the Corporation thought that a twinning would sound better for the stupid ratepayers of the Borough!!!!

That's according to the Ballymoney website, and as they are already twinned with Vanves in France - wouldn't that make us triplets not twins?

Lets see, rates going up more than inflation (nearly twice), short fall in the pension fund which the rate payers are being asked to fund by an increase in the rates over the next 17 years and we are sending Councillors on fact finding trips! On top of this the corpy want to borrow money from DoLGE to build a new clubhouse at the golf club. Does the word Priorities spring to any one elses mind?

Thanks for the info, Billy One Mate. Must say it seemed a rather unusual choice, but an eminently sensible (and laudable) one, given the explanation you've provided. So do you happen to know why Ballymoney was chosen for Douglas? Wouldn't the capital of a small country have been more logical?

I suppose twinning was a novelty a few years ago when people didn't travel very much but it doesn'r seem to be necessary now unless it really is a cultural exchange.

If they must do it I would prefer Douglas to twin with somewhere like Woking where they have a really effective local authority. Then they could learn something useful and apply it when they came back home.
