When the SSC2 returned from its major gearbox repair, then immediately needed further work, the engineers pointed that it was built for the med, not the Irish sea, so every time it drops down hard into a trough, something either, bends, breaks or comes undone. The sentence was finished with not fit for purpose, wrong tool for the job.

It really instills confidence.

Apparently the reason SS2 was going round in circles on Saturday midday when she was approaching the Mersey was because she was down to 2 engines and could not proceed into the river until a third engine was up and running. 4hours and 47 minutes for the trip!

Yes, it was fun on Saturday. Always nice to get your money's worth from the Steam Packet

I gather a clutch on an engine has gone, so when the new one arrives they will just remove the gearbox and replace at sea, no need to drydock.

Still, it's getting appaling now, there is a nice big fast craft in Australia, could be converted to pax service... blah blah blah no point nothing will ever change. They might even repair SE1 and bring her back!
