Port Erin
I had to laugh this morning listening to Mel Warrander (heads up Spar here) when he was asked if he would be paying extra to entice locals to fill the vacancies created by the IHMES going bust. His response was that they are already paying the second highest rate in Europe re: minimum wage, a lot of their merchandise is fixed price and he didn't think that the Manx public would take too kindly having to pay extra for their magazines! There are other retailers and the Internet that can supply this merchandise, everyone makes a killing during TT so surely these outfits can afford to pay a decent hourly rate? I'd be happy to do extra work if these outfits made it worth my while (same as a lot of folk, no doubt). The trouble is, they have become reliant on cheap foreign labour and now they are stuffed. Alias
Irrelevant of how much they're making, if hourly rates went up so would prices. Why doesn't the place that you work charge less for their services?

Alias
The posting didn't sound as if it was just addressed towards TT, rather the permanent work situation.
Pat Ayres
It doesn't "sound" like anything numnnuts, it's written. Sorry to be pedantic, it just infuriates me when the English language is mashed.
