Snaipyr
The Department of Education is to review Careers Services after a report highlighted the need for improvement. Source : http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/world/...man/6644511.stm About time too. About 10 years ago it only had one Careers Officer and a secretary to serve 5 secondary schools and an FE College, plus a guidance service for adults. The equivalent in the UK would have at least 6 Careers Officers for young people in education, two Adult Guidance Officers, Employment Officers to see young job seekers, plus Librarian and other support staff. The Careers Officers' responsibilities also included training the Careers Coordinators in schools and colleges to carry out their careers education role. I think there's three Careers Officers now, but the service has been seriously underfunded for years.
Newsbot
An independent inspection of the Isle of Man's Careers Service in January highlights a number of areas that need to be improved. Albert Tatlock
Career services on the island have always been crap - in my own experience - plus having two kids who have been through there for some advice. A good career service can help people a lot, otherwise people tend to go for the obvious jobs - and miss out on considering many occupations they probably don't even know exist.
