Typical Planning Lack Of Forethought For The Elderly - In Tynwald Street

copycat

Recommended Posts

Looking at the article in IOM Examiner P9 with photos of the Tynwalyd Street re-development blabing on self congratulation for DLGE&Douglas Corpn building 22 apartments for elderly people. fine but looking at the photos reminds me that there used to be on the site the Hospital Shop grocers / newsagent.

So where now do the elderly people have to go to now to get their papers etc? closest is on Buck's Road which for the elderly is just too far away. so how come the planning didn't allow for a shop?

Perhaps the Dougals Mayor can say before he pats himself and the Corpy on the back too much.

Who else remembers the shop as being a handy convenienec store and is it missed?

1. you try using two sticks to get all the way to Buck's Road

2. methinks you are under 30 and probably use a car to fill up with bags of shopping at a supermarket

3. a local corner shop is a community asset where people can meet

also nice to see your getting a defence in for DLGE/ Douglas Corpn whereas its the public that count and they who have relevance to having more convenient services not ones further away. Besides don't you remember the promises before the develeopment was done? if you don't rewind to the relevant Corpy minutes and take a look and then lets see your opinion.

Surely these apparently doddery old biddies were even further away from that shop when there were no flats there at all.

Building flats around 300 yards away from Bucks Road is surely a good thing isn't it?

MCB you do not have a leg to stand on with this one. Perhaps given that you should apply to live in one of said flats

Quite inconvenient that they've demolished the petrol station at mylchreests too. They've got to go all the way to the brown bobby to fill up their rovers now.

And surely they could have incorporated the Industrial Equipment warehouse into their design. If the inconsiderate bastards had done that old Stan would have just had to go downstairs to pick up a rear subframe for his mini, now he's got to go all the way up to DMS.

It's fucking madness it really is. When will these corporation pen pushers learn.

*shakes head and tuts*

I'd love to live in your world of corpy-angst.

You must get up in the morning and throw darts at a picture of David Christian. Your an angry dog poo obsessed man.

still more of an inconvenience than when the shop there was open

I think there is also the point that if your going to live on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd floor of the apartment block, it can be safe to say that you are going to be able to walk 300 yards to get a paper.

Christ, my gran is affronted that we use the car to go to the supermarket when she used to make the 3 mile round trip to the shops every couple of days (when she was in her 70's and early 80's) to get her shopping, and she would carry it home.

Well done on a joint development to create more social housing. It's about time they spent our tax money on something useful.
