A fatal attack on a swan which was filmed on a mobile phone has been described by an animal charity as "cruel, pointless and barbaric". The BBC was sent the footage by the Surrey-based Swan Sanctuary. The eight-second film shows the Royal Mute Swan being kicked in the head. She died a slow death from poisoning because eggs still inside her were broken as a result of the attack. I don't claim to be especially fond of animals, but cruelty of this kind makes me feel sick.
