Mannin Line

1 Was Manx radio under any presure from any MHK in regards to the Mannin Line.

2 Do you agree that with only a 40 min slot at a time when most people are busy on a Sunday, will give the station the excuse to kill it of for good.

3 Can you confirm that it was a management decision to reduce the broadcasting of the ML and that NO other party was involved with that decision.

4 And how are you getting on in your search for alternative employment?

Because that's what you'll be doing if you answer 1 to 3.

Come on FCMR. It's a long time since they cut the head off the messenger with bad news. Give the bloke some space.

I can offer you some answers to some of the issues raised in previous posts.

The question has been posed that the Mannin Line has been moved to Sunday because a."nobody listens then" and b."so then they'll probably get rid of ot altogether".

Neither of these statements are correct.According to our official audience statistics produced by RAJAR who compile figures based on extensive research for all radio stations in The British Isles. the Sunday Mannin Line is very popular. There are no plans to "get rid of it altogether". As such the Sunday Opinion and Mannin Line programmes remain the same with no change to time or format.

As the Managing Director correctly stated the listening figures for The Mannin Line have fallen in recent years and it was decide that we should offer an alternative which is:

The morning "Talking Heads" programme currently hosted by myself offers increased opportunity for you to contribute on not only national but international issues which affect all of us and as such means more opportunity as it is three hours long. Believe me when I tell you that the issue of the "Ramsey Pier" or the "Wurlitzer" will be "fair game" as the Programme progresses.

The news programme "Midday Mandate" has been extended from 30 mins to 1hour and you will also have a chance to hear some of our specialist programming again, such as "Ignition", "Freeboard" etc all of which in my opinion are excellent community programming which after all is what we are about.

Our advertisers are not " leaving in droves" in fact quite the opposite which has to be good news for a number of reasons. I appreciate that The Mannin Line has been a popular programme in the past but sadly not recently although this is by no means the fault of Stu Peters who has always done an excellent job.

Every company we have ever worked for has gone through change bit as Stu quite rightly said we need time to let the dust settle .

If you have constructive questions to ask about any of the comments made in this thread the you are welcome to e-mail me in the office and I will reply if I can.chriswilliams@manxradio.com.

Oh, I see RAJAR.

Ive heard lots about listening surveys and that. Neve, ever, ever come across anyone who was ever interviewd or asked opinion though, mate. Im sure there was a survey but maybe it was carried out in a car park up douglas head.

a couple of years back I heard andy wint saying the public were invited to fill in a questionnaire on Manx radio. I phoned the girl to send one but no questionnaire received. I phoned a week later "oh sorry ill send again", Never reeceived.

Mind you, we,re just the listeners and people that pay you. nothing changes.

Sorry to be grumpy but my CD player has broken down. You cant win em all.

Blah, blah, blah ...

Why attack Manx Radio people who have bothered to come on here, willing - within limits obviously - to answer your queries.

If nothing else, it's just plain rude.

Yeh, sorry, as I said. But I was really unhappy that I had constructive things to say and they didnt let me fill in a form - as advertised on the radio, by seding one out,

Have you GIJAmes ever spoke to someone who ever answered an opinion p[oll on manx Radio. Its a small island you know - I havent.

If they have the brass kneck to say "hey listen to me" from a radio speeker they need the same brass kneck to have someone be able to answer back. In a nice enough way I thought by the way.

Can you explain how we pay the employees of Manx Radio ?

Geo

Manx Radio is part funded by TAXPAYERS money, how many other companies are part funded for many years.

But it is still a private company and as such we dont pay their wages, nor should we.

As for the new station format, although it is different from what we are use to, I for one am finding it allot more informative and up beat during the day. I know change is hard, especially when you are a crab, but change is quite often a good thing. The past is the past, lets live for the future.

If you always do, What you always did

You’ll always get, What you always got

So if you want to improve, you must do something different to reach them.

I very rarely listen to Manx Radio. I remember listening one afternoon a good while ago and Suzie Richardson took a call for the birthday list. When she asked the bloke who it was he wanted to wish Happy Birthday to he replied "Mike Hunt".........it took her a while to click!

Many people believe it is the CM and politicians who has helped to cut Mannin line.

This may or not be the case.

however it is certainly the case that the silence of protest about the cut in Mannn line from our politicains and certainly CM has been defening
