Amadeus
Vatican issues 10 Commandments for driving VATICAN CITY - The Vatican has issued a set of Ten Commandments for motorists, warning that cars can be "an occasion for sin" ranging from road rage and drunken driving to becoming vehicles for prostitution. The unusual document issued Tuesday by the Vatican's Office for Migrants and Itinerant People, also urged people to pray while behind the wheel. Among other things it warned about the effects of road rage, saying driving can bring out "primitive" behaviour in motorists, including "impoliteness, rude gestures, cursing, blasphemy, loss of sense of responsibility or deliberate infringement of the highway code." The document also urges motorists to obey traffic regulations and drive with a moral sense and to help victims of accidents. Renato Cardinal Martino, who heads the office, told a news conference that the Vatican felt it necessary to address the pastoral needs of motorists because driving has become such a big part of contemporary life. He noted that the Bible is full of people on the move, including Mary and Joseph, the parents of Jesus - and that his office is tasked with dealing with all "itinerant" people - including refugees, prostitutes, truck drivers and the homeless. So, here they are: I. You shall not kill. II. The road shall be for you a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm. III. Courtesy, uprightness and prudence will help you deal with unforeseen events. IV. Be charitable and help your neighbour in need, especially victims of accidents. V. Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin. VI. Charitably convince the young and not so young not to drive when they are not in a fitting condition to do so. VII. Support the families of accident victims. VIII. Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so that they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness. IX. On the road, protect the more vulnerable party. X. Feel responsible towards others. From the Vatican Website Now, wait a sec - Nr V says: "Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination" : The current Papamobil: (Armoured Mercedes ML 430 - custom made, with a 4.3l V8) And some other versions, either previously used or still in use when Benedikt travels: 1999 Cadillac Papamobil W 140 S-Class Merc Landaulet, based on the S 500, 5.0l V8 W 126 S-Class Landaulet, based on the old 500 SEL, 5.0l V8 Er..ok, I guess that means big 4x4s and limos are not a sign of power and domination, which in turn would mean it's ok with the Vatican to drive them - eat that, Greenpeace... (Bit worried about the bit that says "urged people to pray while behind the wheel", though - I think mobile phones are dangerous enough - don't need people to read the bible while driving...) Miss Take
also urged people to pray while behind the wheel. Don't most people pray with their eyes closed?
