‘Go to work on an egg’ ad banned

Fifty years after Britons were implored to “Go to work on an egg”, an advertising watchdog has banned a revival of the campaign, saying that it breaches health guidelines.

Plans to mark the anniversary by broadcasting the original television advertisements featuring Tony Hancock have had to be called off.

The advertising clearance centre, a government-backed watchdog, says that it blocked the campaign because eating an egg for breakfast every day was not a “varied diet”.

The organisation said: “Eating eggs every day goes against what is now the generally accepted advice of a varied diet. We therefore could not approve the ads for broadcast.”

The egg information service offered to add a line to the adverts saying that eggs should be eaten as part of a varied diet. The compromise was rejected.

The British Egg Information Service is showing the ads on its golden anniversary website: www.gotoworkonanegg.co.uk.

Where does it end? Heaven forbid that they should try the 'Drinka pinta milka day' advert again!

They have recently banned milk adverts to children - because full cream milk contains high fat levels and is classed as 'junk food' in terms of advertising to children.

Welcome to extreme Britain where you cannot partake of anything anymore as it will do you harm.... what a load of rubbish and how much is it costing the tax payer to tell you this crap.... we started with butter being bad for you and margarine was okay and then they changed their minds and decided that both were equally as bad.... now we attack eggs.... shall we do bacon and sausages next?.... I swear we will run out of legal foods soon and starve to death till we find grass, Ooops! the green corner tell us that grass is reserved for cows that produce butter and milk that is bad for us.... follow me into the sea to find a golden fish and quickly until the EU ban off shore fishing. :D

Interesting.

So why is it that if going to work on an egg, eating bread and butter, drinking a pinta of full fat a day is so bad for you, that 30+ years ago we did not see lardy arsed teenaged boys and muffin top girls around everywhere, like we do in the "healthy" days of today?

Because it's the responsibility of 4 to 9 year old children to go to Tescos to buy all the shopping. No wait, that was a dream, the adults buy the food to feed their kids don't they? So who gives a fuck what's advertised. Responsible parents feed their kids a healthy varied diet - mine did, and it didn't matter how many chocolate and crisp adverts I saw between Postman Pat and Scooby Doo.
