It seems to me the only groan was that you'd chosen a misleading and sensationalistic thread title. And guess what? You had.

 

Although, I'd agree misleading and sensationalistic posts by you have become a major reality on this forum.

This link is to 2011 and the public sector pay bit is in annexe 6 which is at pages 109 onwards.

 

Which leads to an interesting question. That 2011 Report was published in June 2011 - what ever happened to the 2012 one?

 

A bit of digging around finds a much-reduced version called the Cross Government Report 2012 with a revealing introduction:

In recent years, annexes to the Government's Annual Report have been the vehicle through which a range of cross Government information was published. The new Administration is currently reviewing its performance management structure and as such an Annual Report in the form that has been produced since 2008 will not be published this year.

 

Nevertheless, important cross Government information continues to be recorded by Departments, Boards and Offices and collated by the Chief Secretary's Office and this consolidated Report draws this diverse range of information together in one accessible source.

 

Once again we see the Bell administration cutting back on the information that it publishes. It's only a 32 page document compared to the Annual Report 2011 with 146 pages and it may be that they are legally obliged to publish some of the information in any case. As it happens the salary bands for the civil service and public servants are included (p27-28):

...or worse than that, 859 getting more than £50K per annum - that's a grand/week!

 

I reckon you'd be hard pushed to find 1,000 people in the private sector earning over £50,000 a year. Those figures are nothing short of disgusting and just prove how one sided our economy is. All the money is just going to feed government employees.

Very probably - I'd anticipate that the salaries of doctors at consultant grade (the top of the tree I believe) are probably(very) well north of £100k. The highest earner of all will, as often referred to here previously, be Mr. Aspden.

Now we can see the issue in trying make these people redundant. They'll have some pretty hefty clauses in there which will set them up for life (and eat into the reserves) should it happen.
