Tynwald Day Celebrated In China!

Recommended Posts

The first Chinese Tynwald day celebration was held yesterday at the British Consulate in Guangzhou. It was hosted by Mr Richard Hewitt, the honourary representative of the Isle of Man gevernment in China and Mr Brian Davidson, the British Consul-General in Gaungzhou.

Pretty good do actually! Started off with an opening speach by Mr Hewitt, extolling the virtues of the Island. Then came drinks and a newly created Manx themed cocktail called "Manx Blue Sky" (the guy had obviously never seen a Manx winter sky!!) with a buffet of "Isle of Man finger food" (and it wasn't chips, cheese and gravy!!!), followed with entertainment by a contemporary Chinese dance company themed around the 3 legs, symbolising stability.

A great night that publisised the Isle of Man in Southern China to a bunch of diplomats, business people and local officials.

(btw - Richard Hewitt is the son of Anthony Hewitt, the communications commission director)
