copycat
The commodity price of lead has risen dramatically up some 63 per cent this year to a record $2,700 a tonne. As a consequence the local IOM clergy are being warned to be extra vigilant about the lead on the roofs of Manx churches. The Ecclesiastical Insurance has issued a warning letter saying that thieves are stripping churches of valuable metals at the rate of more than one church a day to cash in on scrap prices kept high by heavy demand from China. Apparently the Ecclesiastical Insurance has received 500 claims in the past 14 months, totaling £750,000. Local Manx scrap merchants are also to be asked to keep vigilant to identify any potential stolen lead and other base metals. And if you haven't any lead in your pencil then its probably too late to get any replacement at a reasonable cost.
