New Prisoner Door To Door Delivery Service

copycat

Recommended Posts

There is speculation that a new prisoner transport business is to be launched following the introduction of the Prisoner Escorts Bill which grants approval for prisoner escort functions to be contracted out by the Department of Home Affairs following migration of prisoners to the new prison at Jurby early in 2008.

The retiring Deputy Prison Govenor is reported in the Manx Indie as saying he intends to "start a small business".

The cost effectiveness will rely on the service being an "on-demand taxi service" for the prison and court authorities but could be a nice little earner for a local private security firm.

I do think that the "Prisoner Escorts Bill" is a very poor title that conjures up totally the wrong impression of what its designed to do!

The escorting of prisoners in the UK is big business (Group 4, Securicor etc) and I'm surprised that they haven't cornered the market over here too. The departing Governor is therefore capitalizing (it appears) on an area that he obviously knows about and hopefully the costs are kept to a minimum to the tax payer.

I much prefer an old Governor to be in charge of the system, than let it be dominated by the ruthless organizations from across.

I couldn't agree more. It is a well-known fact that the Mk1 Escorts were pretty fit, but that the Mk2 Escort, with trick bits fitted, certainly took no prisoners.
