copycat
I've been told the cost of the specialist music programes on local radio is too expensive at the rate of £25per for a 1 hour show that the presenter gets. Talk is of buying in feed from other commercial radio stations. Is that a good idea? Why isn't there a world music hour - if Andy Kershaw isn't under exclusive contract to the BBC it would be great to hear him on Energy say. Deejay Denzel
IF you want world music... You have Andy Kershaw who does it for the BBC, you can pick it up on the Isle of Man you know!
Declan
And that attitude is the reason I don't listen to music on any of the local stations.
sarahc
I don't listen to any of the specialist music programmes. If most people are like me then who can blame them for ditching the programmes?
Grumble
From what I've heard, most local radio presenters would be thrilled to get £25/hr...
hboy
In my book "specialist music" = shite music. It only gets pioneered on the likes of the BBC as you can't sell advertising space around music that only 15 people are interested in. In the days of downloads and MP3's if you want to listen to that sport of stuff download it or subscribe to any one of the growing number of pirate internet radio portals. Its amazing what is out there.
The Old Git
From what I've heard, most local radio presenters would be thrilled to get £25/hr... It's £25 for a one hour show, which isn't necessarily the same as £25/hr
Deejay Denzel
We'd be thrilled if we get £500 a show like some world music presenters do.
Deejay Denzel
And that attitude is the reason I don't listen to music on any of the local stations. You can't compete with a show like Andy kershaw's, people flood him with world music and he has a team of producers who source and arrange the interviews with these artists. On Island you would be scratching round everywhere yourself for material and at great expense. Also hboy is right, clients don't want to advertise in shows that don't feature popular music, with government hand-outs or the benefit of a license fee you could get away with providing for minority tastes.
