Moghrey Mie
A feasibility study is to be carried out over plans for a new visitor centre in the Isle of Man's capital. Source : http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/world/...man/6933780.stm Does anybody remember when there was a bus station in Lord Street and a building that was originally intended to act as a focus for people using the buses and travelling to the airport? They pulled it down.
pamplemousse
Visitor centre eh. Don't you need visitors for that? We're lucky we get any, what with the extortionate cost of getting here, the shabby 'service' industry that awaits the hapless tourist, and the fact that there's nothing much by way of things to do because the govt spent the money on poxy twaddle like...visitor centres. Anyway, it'll never happen.
Ean
Other ideas which are being mooted include new pedestrian links to Douglas Head, the promenade and the town centre as well as the completion and promotion of the cycleway. What cycleway? The one on the prom? If so what exactly needs to be completed about it?
The Bastard
Maybe they're promoting the single mountain bike track that's going to tempt all the outdoor enthusiasts away from the hundreds of miles of tracks in Scotland and Wales, if they can forget about the enormous travel costs. Another sound use of public funds. A visitor centre built in a part of town well away from any visitors. At least it won't get worn out through overuse. %age
In an interview on Manx Radio Mandate this morning on this matter, with Councillor David Christian from Douglas Corporation, I note that Stu Peters referred to Davie Boy as chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee. In these euphemistic title sensitive days Mr Peters should of course, have used the self styled title "Council Leader".
Lonan3
"Other ideas which are being mooted include new pedestrian links to Douglas Head," Apparently the 'Council Leader' believes he can walk on water.
thebees
I met some more tourists the other day, very nice they were too. They went to Port Erin, it was closed nvm eh? so then they went to Silverdale..it was broken and looked like a building site. All of these small things that need attention and they are thinking of making a visitors centre, well I'll be darned.
