Last Ten
Pretty much the same thing? So you would ask for the fire service if you mum had her handbag snatched.... Ah but who cares???
Chopsticks
999 does not go through to the control room, it goes to the MT operators who screen the calls and pass onto the police control room. You are factually wrong! It is NOT a Police control room it is the Emergeny Services Joint Control Room, which encompasses all 3 Emergency Services. See HERE Last 10 Pretty much the same thing? Watchoo talkin' 'bout, Willis? Buggyman
i think we should stick with the origional version of 999 dialed backwards.

See HERE Last 10 WOW you enjoyed pointing out a minor mistake a little too much...... Same shit though, Operators filter the calls up to the ESJCR so if a new number was provided then who would handle the calls? not the emergency services directly but another filter system and you could argue that the emergency services should not deal with the calls because it`s not an emergency situation and more of a help line. So charge people to use it, and use a call centre that is not already filtering calls on behalf of the emergency services.
manxman8180
Does 112 work in the same way as 999? I remember hearing some talk about it many years ago (to allign with the EU), but have never had cause to try it out. Might go and set something on fire and give it a go. ans
Incidentally, you only actually have to dial 99. This two digit shortcode was introduced because people in places that needed to hit 9 for an outside line would sometimes forget in a panic and just press it three times.
