bluemonday
The survey is being carried out on behalf of the Manx Government by independent specialist researchers And how much will that cost?
Mission
It would be interesting to know just how much money has been spent over the years on discussing the future of the pier. Hands up who thinks it would have been enough to fully restore the damn thing!
Nitro
I would like to see it restored, It'll last for another 100 years and is well worth the refurbishment cost, although the longer they leave it the more expensive its becoming! How much did the pier originally cost to build?

Nitro
How much is 45K in 1880's in todays money then? I think the restoration figure they did come up was a ridiculous amount!
Grianane
demolish it! - alos get rid of the Laxey Wheel, Peel Castle, Castle Rushen, close dowm MNH that would save £5.4million per annum. Get real - its a national monument, its the only one left, it needs to be saved. How long before someone suggests moving it to Douglas............ Get real - its a national monument, its the only one left, it needs to be saved. How long before someone suggests moving it to Douglas............ it is now more accuratly descirbed as a rusting hulk of metal. an eye saw. the other things you mention are not. it is in no way comparable to them. was it brighton that accidently burnt theirs down. a similar accident would be be most fortuitous here. or maybe the scrap value would cover the cost of demolition. either way it is not worth spending another penny of tax payers money on it. if it had any chance of a vialbe future someone would have bought it long ago and made something of it. Tugger
I think I'm with Pontius. The government throws our money at enough harebrained schemes as it is
