Campaign To Save Farmhill Manor

According to Manx Radio (last Monday) "An Island-wide campaign to save an eighteenth century house in Douglas is being launched this morning (Monday).

Farmhill Manor was converted in the 18th century from a Manx farmhouse dating back to 1430.

However, its owner, Heritage Homes, is attempting to have it removed from the protected buildings register in order to redevelop it, and have lodged an appeal after its initial request was turned down.

South Douglas MHK, Bill Malarkey (pictured), who accused the developer of lacking ‘a conscience or morals’ over the issue, wants the public’s help in saving what he calls our Manx heritage:"

Anyone wanting to help petition against this can go Here

This is another example of a large company riding roughshod over the good people of the IoM, pretty soon we will have 227 square miles of 'could be anywhere in the uk' housing estates and apartments. It's lost the first attempt and will now as in previous cases continue to throw UK silks at this until it gets its own way (e.g. as per pro AnaghCoar/ Farmhill).

Only 11 days to react. Get signing and back someone willing to save our Island.

This is the same developer that had the building in Victoria Street de-listed in order to build a new showroom

So join the petition by all means, but don't be surprised when the diggers move in

By the way, the lovely old manor house is presently used a lodgings for some of the DD workforce

Bill's protestations made not one jot of difference to the other estate that got approved in Farmhill, and the developer even seems to have got its way over the EMI unit to subsidise the cost as I see this is now agreed.

I'd suggest that this is a waste of time to. It might have been on that site in one form of another since around 1405, but it will take a day or two to drop it and nobody will officially give a toss.

All we are bequeathing future generations on this Island is massive mortgages on crummy identikit apartments.

Edit: spelling

So let's all sit back, do nothing and let out Island and our childrens futures be trashed. Good stance. In fact whu not just sign the Island over to Dan and his merry band of Polish workers?

What you, or I, or anyone else for that matter, think is irrelevant.

As I said .. the only legacy we are leaving future generations on this Island is debt on get rich quick developments. Its been decided that this is what is happening. If you want to believe that a petition will make any difference at all you sign it.

A manx farmhouse, converted to a manor house is threatened with 're-development'. A petition is raised and achieves absolutely nothing, probably. Questions are raised in the house etc; etc; etc; .

The only pier on the island exists and is maintained by the government by spending £40,000 a year on it by using the money elsewhere than on the actual pier itself. The local MHK, also the treasury minister, does sod all, the other one drives around in her little white van doing sod all also (unless a camera is around). Treasury suggests rate payers pay for the upkeep, a bent questionnaire is circulated to those that can be trusted to do the right thing. Nothing is said about that.

FFS, the 'manor house' will never be used by any of you, will never be lived in by any of you and will never be enjoyed by your children.

The pier can be use by you and enjoyed for many generations by your off spring.

Priorities.

Or is it "just a pity it's in Ramsey and not Douglas"

Maybe you think it's "so shit" because gov throw money at the run down market town on the eastern coast that is forever 'corporate town' instead of looking after the rather less 'corporate' parts of the island that thrive despite attempts to rape the culture to encourage tax dodgers of various countries to come and enjoy this tinsel town 'gem of the irish sea' disney world they are fast developing with the aid of AG, Dandara bros and the Swarfega kid.
