[BBC News] Island water 'among best in UK'

Considering that most of our rivers are less than 10 miles long, it's not really surprising surely? If we are able to fuck it up in such a short space what are we crowing about? Every river on this fair island should be spotless, even counting the Litney in Ramsey when the car wash at Raymotors spews detergent into it when they haven't cleaned the drains out.

Some credit should go to the Manx Rivers Improvement Association set up a few of years ago. The MRIA has focussed attention on the state of the rivers on the island.

Incidents of pollution in rivers should be reported to 631212

PS I think if you ask the locals in Ramsey you'll find it's not the Litney River.

where does the water go when they have cleaned the drains out?? i would suspect it all ends up in the same place but by a different route.

It would go into the foul water system and get treated as the rest is, probably pumped out to sea where it is naturally recycled and diluted to the degree of invisibility. I very much doubt that the detergent itself is harmful to wildlife, but it's effect would be to starve the river of oxygen for a short while. Better out to sea than into a river. It would be lovely if there were a treatment plant in Ramsey, but unfortunately we don't warrant one being outside the 'finance sector' zone.
