Lonan3
LINK TO STORY They are on the front line of the war on terror, but German pilots facing the Taliban are insisting they stop at tea time every day to comply with health and safety regulations. The helicopter pilots, who provide medical back-up to Nato ground troops, set off for their base by mid-afternoon so they can be grounded by sundown. Their refusal to fly in the dark is hampering Operation Desert Eagle, an allied offensive, which involves 500 Nato-led troops plus 1,000 Afghan troops and police. They spend much of their time in an enormous base, complete with beer halls and nightclubs, in Mazar-e-Sharif, a 90-minute flight from the fighting. They also have a base at Kunduz. So, they need to stop for tea, they're frightened of the dark and they spend most of their time boozing. How the hell did we make such a hard job of beating them last time 'round? Pat Ayres
Humour and nationalism. Germans are the same 'race' as the English. The queen is German FFS.
Pat Ayres
One of the silliest nationalist arguments is that "if they'd won the war we would all be speaking German". A stupid thing to say, but look what happened when the allies (we) won the war. Makes you think?
Amadeus
Well, come on - can't allow your supper to get cold, can you? Food is served on time around here... On the serious side of things - one of the comments on there summed it up: The Afghan War is very unpopular in Germany and not approved by the majority of the German ppl. So why should our soldiers die for american goals ? This isn´t our war. It is indeed not our problem that other nations are dumb enough to fight in a lost war. By the way the Afghans were our former allies and we never had any problems with them. As for the headline, think we´re are the germans you wanted us to be after the lost war. Peacefull people drinking beer in beerhalls. Either way we´re do it wrong.

feelslikeitshould
It is indeed not our problem that other nations are dumb enough to fight in a lost war. Unlike the Germans who turn up and not bother fighting...maybe he Germans were invited along because the rest of the world thought they might like to get your hands on some weapons, as a special treat. Go home and build some cars, sulky little buggers.
Amadeus
Seriously - why should Germany allow itself to get sucked deeper into a conflict that Bush and Blair started, and where the real agenda still isn't quite clear, nevermind a battle (or any other) plan? The German forces are already delivering support for it, with training, supplies, etc - that's all that can and should be expected - now to whinge about that is a bit rich. The UK and US of A started it, messed up big time and now cry "help us" - tough shit. 25 German soldiers already returned in body bags thanks to some people's ambitions for world domination - that's 25 too many.... Mr. Sausages
..why should our soldiers die for american goals ? It wasn't too long ago that German soldiers dying was the goal of the Americans... But this war was actually justified 6 years ago, and most countrys agreed about it in the aftermath of 9th of November 2001. It should have been sorted out then, but Bush got distracted by oil. Mr. Sausages
9/11 = 9th of November.
Bananaman
9/11 = 9th of November. To the rest of the world yes, to the daft americans this is the 11 of September. Really really. My mate has one of the easiest wedding anniversaries to remember as he got married on 11th September 1999.
