Douglas Borough Council unveiled its first corporate plan at a business lunch held on Friday 23 November in the council chamber of Douglas town hall.

Introducing the three-year plan for the period 2008 – 2011 the leader of Douglas Borough Council councillor David Christian said the document set out clearly defined objectives and ambitious targets for the council’s future strategy that aimed to deliver quality services matching ratepayers’ expectations while maximising use of resources.

Explaining the corporate plan in greater detail councillor Christian said: ‘The corporate plan is designed to set performance benchmarks, audit service delivery and lend direction, transparency and clarity to Douglas Borough Council’s overall operation.

‘The corporate plan places great emphasis on co-operation, which will be particularly important in respect of national issues affecting Douglas and to this end we will be working closely with government on a range of capital projects for the benefit of the people of Douglas and the Isle of Man, notably the upgrading of Douglas’s town centre.

‘The overriding theme of the corporate plan is partnership as nothing can be achieved without partnering with the public and private sectors and it is a tangible demonstration that Douglas Borough Council “means business”. We are a forward-looking local authority committed to partnership working and with this plan we have the framework with which to take the Council forward and develop the capital of the Isle of Man into a town in which to flourish and of which we can all be proud.’

Copies of the corporate plan are available from Douglas Town Hall, Ridgeway Street, Douglas, IM99 1AD and Douglas Borough Library, 10 Victoria Street, Douglas, IM1 2LD. The corporate plan may also be viewed at www.douglas.gov.im."

I take this as an admission that their performance & value for money has been crap up to now
