Our readers in the uk may be having difficulty here;

A toilet block means a public building where toilets are available free of charge.

A sink is somewhere, with running water, within one of these blocks where you can wash your hands.

There are a number of these around the island, all clean and working order, mainly without graffiti or 'glory holes' in the partition walls. These are open throughout the day and some at night. You can use these without fear of being accosted by a 'cruiser' or plain clothed policeman/woman.

Vandals cause hundreds of pounds worth of damage to a women's toilet block.

Groups of youngsters have been hanging around those toilets for months. i would have thought the local neighbourhood police would know who they are by now.

The lights on the shelters were vandalised recently too.

There is no law to stop them "hanging around"...... The problem is proving which of them (if it was them) actually did the damage.

It's things like this that makes Criminal Damage the most common crime (in the whole of the UK - not just the IOM) and also why it is probably one of the hardest crimes to solve. Someone drunk walking home stumbles alongside a car and snaps a wing mirror off. Unless someone sees them do it and calls the Police, there is virtually no chance of catching them.
