[BBC News] Surveys to decide pool's future

I was at Ramsey commissioners on Wednesday when they, briefly, discussed this. Only one commissioner, John Gaggs, declared his wish for the site to be sold and the proceeds use to build a new facility somewhere in Ramsey, the rest indicated their wish to keep the building.

recommendations were;

1. That the present swimming pool premises be identified as having potential for consideration for future sports use and

2. That the commission undertake an exercise to identify existing users and facilities used prior to considering further options for the present swimming pool premises and site on it's transfer into the commission's ownership.

Seems it's all up in the air, so to speak. Nothing happens until a report on the responses being presented to the commissioners in March 2008.

There is a whole election of the commission in April 2008.

Now is the time to be heard and to keep the pool building. Don't let Gaggs and his fellow travellers get their way.

It's the ability to use it as a community facility that is needed. It is big enough to split up into smaller units and accommodate loads of diverse user groups. Facilities for this are limited in Ramsey and a central location would be very useful. It won't be used as a swimming pool any more, but the cafe could be reopened after alteration.

As for people from Douglas using it and saving a fiver, it would cost more than that to get here, do think about what you are saying young fellow.
