She is a wheelchair user with severe MS and the car is her only leisure pursuit. Her fear of motorways was the cause of the driving error, she got there by mistake after being confused with road signs etc; don't you think she's suffering enough?

By the way, you'll find artic drivers are far too professional to allow an accident to occur like the one you envisage, which was the reason she didn't die on that road.

Skrappey, there are plenty of lorries being driven by foreign drivers, plenty don't keep to permitted driving hours, can't read english road signs, lorries aren't put through strict safety tests. 10 mph is not safe on a motorway. If the police were aware of a vehicle that was going to travel at that speed, it would have an escort.

Why aren't mopeds or vehicles of less than 50cc allowed on motorways?

Sorry, but if she's that bad she should be off the road. Thousands of people every year have to give up their licences temporarily or permanently because of ill-health, and you have to draw a line somewhere - because people's pleasure driving should never be at someone elses' risk. Give her the licence back by all means, but only after a medical and retaking her test in this case IMO.

The telling coment was - North Avon Magistrates' Court had previously heard that Mrs Cole's GP had been treating her for "fear of driving" for the past three-and-a-half years!

That being the case, she really shouldn't have been driving without some sort of supervision.

[Mind you, she did overtake keyboarder!]

I think she must have ventured on to Richmond Hill as I was behind a car the other night that not only slowed down to a virtual stop when cars were approaching but sat on the brakes all the way down Richmond Hill not letting the car go above 15mph.

The amazing bit was, when the car enetered the area illuminated by street lights left me for dead doing well in excess of 30mph!
