spock
If you've seen the IOM Examiner today it headlines with:- "£15m aparthotel would create 50 new jobs". Well that's it then buy some short term jobs and it will be ok through planning. This smacks so much of a residential apartment development by stealth. The article even says "visitors want to stay for a reasonable period and preferred infomal accommodation with a home from home feel" and that new-build bedrooms are "uneconomic". Prediction - the same will happen as the Cherry Orchard - after a time the 87 "units" will be converted and sold off as apartments because running the "units" as an aparthotel will be uneconomic. Argumenmts for or against?
Frances
"development by stealth" and Mount Murray - never - we all know the developer was cleared of all dishonesty over this - it was merely mis-understandings in the planning department
oldmanxfella
I think we should just cut the pretence on these planning applications and let them do what they want. It always happens anyway so why bugger about pretending that things are going to be any different.
mollag
Its an old sprat to catch a mackerel ramp, been used time and again over here, im surprised they still try it on.

localyokel
By the way. What happened to the equally doomed petition to save farmhill manor? That seems to have gone very quiet.

Static
Who is going to monitor whether the occupants are genuine visitors, long stay 'visitors' , hotel empoyees or permanent residents? The same people who took absolutely no notice of the Neds taking in long term residents in their (ex) "tourist" accomodation!
Gags
Come on, you know the law regarding building in the Isle of Man - first a car park and then apartments, simple!
Sharp
Tony Brown Chief Minister told the House of Keys today that the construction of two new Hotels within the Lord Street area along with associated shops and leisure complexes was to start this year. He went on to say that its not the quantity of hotels the Island needs its the quality and this was also the view of the Minister for the DTL.
