If you've seen the IOM Examiner today it headlines with:- "£15m aparthotel would create 50 new jobs".

Well that's it then buy some short term jobs and it will be ok through planning.

This smacks so much of a residential apartment development by stealth.

The article even says "visitors want to stay for a reasonable period and preferred infomal accommodation with a home from home feel" and that new-build bedrooms are "uneconomic".

Prediction - the same will happen as the Cherry Orchard - after a time the 87 "units" will be converted and sold off as apartments because running the "units" as an aparthotel will be uneconomic.

Argumenmts for or against?

Who is going to monitor whether the occupants are genuine visitors, long stay 'visitors' , hotel empoyees or permanent residents?

The same people who took absolutely no notice of the Neds taking in long term residents in their (ex) "tourist" accomodation!

Tony Brown Chief Minister told the House of Keys today that the construction of two new Hotels within the Lord Street area along with associated shops and leisure complexes was to start this year. He went on to say that its not the quantity of hotels the Island needs its the quality and this was also the view of the Minister for the DTL.
