Charles Flynn
POSTIVE ACTION GROUP Yes that's right we are back at the Empress Hotel, Douglas MONDAY 28th JANUARY 2008 at 7.30 p.m. There will be a presentation and discussion "HOW CONFIDENTIAL IS OUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?" Last November it was reported that HM Revenue & Customs in the U K had lost two computer discs containing Child Benefit records, which included the names, addresses and bank details of 25 million people. There was public outcry and since then other losses have been revealed. Isle of Man government responded by announcing a review of its own data protection and information security policies and procedures. We await the outcome 2 months later. Prior to this P A G member Rodger Gimbert successfully campaigned to ban the Biometric thumb-printing of Island Primary schoolchildren, fully supported by the Education Department who were unaware such activity was taking place. The E U is planning to fingerprint children from age six for passport applications It is the stated intention of the U K government to introduce an electronic (Biometric) I D card which may further put private information at risk. Introduction here would require Tynwald approval and to date no decision has been made Many P A G members believe that underlying all this is a fundamental question of the erosion of civil liberties. That's why we've decided to raise the issue for debate. Do come along, bring a guest and join in. It may be that you already have firm opinions or it may be that you want to know more. Please do try and make it ! W Roger Tomlinson Chair Tel: 863106 http://positiveactiongroup.org/html/pag_events.html
