Sellafield

Don't like the sound of an ageing car ferry with a hand full of guards sailing this past us!

A ship described as 'an ageing car ferry' is due to sail from Sellafield this week, down the Irish Sea, with hundreds of pounds of bomb grade plutonium oxide on board.

The former roll on roll-off ferry, which is not being named, apparently has 'a handful of guards on board'.

What's the problem? If they send it away, it is best for it to go by ship, and it will then go a lot further away from here than it is now. The sooner the better.

The problem being the hundreds of pounds of bomb grade plutonium oxide on board which is being guarded by apparently a handful of guards, (hopefully armed to the teeth) lets just say two words "Ship Piracy".

they tail it with a sub, ive seen it done by the navy when they transport obsolete weapons for destruction,

Lets hope so eh.

Surely it would be less risky for the authorities to say nowt rather than advertising the fact.

You would think so eh?

Reading the link that bluemonday posted, it would seem that the Canadians know more about what's going on in Sellafield than us.

Does info relating to transporting this type of material have to be brought into public domain ? Surely it would be less risky for the authorities to say nowt rather than advertising the fact.

You'd think so wouldn't you. But maybe they have to. Maybe it's a dummy run and they are just saying this as 'hundreds of pounds of bomb grade plutonium' it is the kind of material terrorists would be after, and perhaps this is a honeytrap - either to snare, assess the risk, or create a diversion for the real shipment. Maybe giving out this info makes you think it is mis-info, so the shipment is safer - oh, you just never can tell. What you can be fairly sure of is any real shipment of such material will be safe and well protected with all sorts of contingency plans in place.

you know i was thinking the same there,

becaue u do have to be really stupied to advertise the fact that its wepons grade stuff,

i would have thought if thay wanted to ship wapons grade stuff thay would just say its a load of useless nuc fuel

that way noboodys the wiser

No it's a Canadian site with a story from the independent.co.uk. See links on article. But I agree why report it.

Ooops - sorry.

But I guess if studmuffin, gazza and I can get to think this is a bit fishy, then anyone smart enough to know what to do with this material, and how to handle it, and to mount a maritime interdiction - well they'd probably figure the same. Hence they wouldn't know if its real or not. Nothing shits people up like thinking they might be going into a trap but not knowing for sure. So for all we know it might be a psyop to defend the shipment. Independent on Sunday, no D notice, and making a big point about how attractive this would be to terrorists - smells fishy to me. So either its a piss poor shipment, or a very crude honey trap, or a moderately sophisticated psyop - probably to compensate for the budget cuts on the shipping and security.

(do you think that's salvaged the honey trap? :) )

:nuke:
