Declan Posted March 18, 2008 Share Posted March 18, 2008 Basically, he has been releasing albums since 1978 on his own label. by mail order through a PO Box. There has always been a mystery about him, he has given two phone interviews, his real identity has never been confirmed and he didn't perform live until 2004 (in Glasgow of all places). I can't say I've noticed any "hype" recently, however, his profile has risen over the last decade, partly due to the effect that the Internet has had on bringing outsider artists to the attention of people who wouldn't have heard it otherwise, and the live shows have helped. Also there was a cover album called Down In A Mirror where lots of alternative types (Six Organs of Admittance, Brother JT, Jeff Tweedy, Okkervil River etc) covered his songs.
