Slim
http://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/Minister-39...athy.3949690.jp Interesting that some areas have too many candidates, like Onchan, yet some are short. Points even more to the fact that there's too many local authorites to me. Does explain the quality of the Peel officials we've seen on here though
triskelion
There was a campaign to encourage people to stand, but it seemed mostly to be based on it being a stepping stone to the Keys. To be honest, I'm not really sure what it is local authorities do, which is what would dissaude me from standing. In Onchan the biggest debate seems to be over the rise in rate and a skatepark, which kind of highlights how people the lack of importance people place on local politics. I don't accept that this in of itself demonstrates there are too many local authorities. Instead, it merely shows there is complete apathy towards local authorities, and as I said, most people probably don't know what they all get up to. I do, however, think there too many local authorities for this day and age, and that they should be amalgamated where possible with the aim of eventual abolition.
