Lonan3
Errrmmm.... shouldn't that be 'officially closed'?
bluemonday
Perhaps it should be marked with a glittering evening with civic dignitaries, local celebrities, a tribute singer and a bloke in a jumper officiating.
TerryMcCann
And the unveiling of a sculpture of a seagull made out of the now defunct slopping out buckets

How about a public flogging or hanging of some lttle scroat of a junkie instead.
manxy
Saw the pictures today of the existing prison in todays Examiner. It didn't look too bad apart from the crazy tiling on the floor. I did notice however, that there were 3 beds in one cell and wondered if that was a typical cell? Hopefully, people will not automatically go to jail for fines and tax dodging etc, but given the opportunity of repaying the debts, by direct debits from their workplace, or if not working, deducted from their benefits. The paper stated that there was going to be "improved health, fitness, training, behavioural and educational resources that play a role in the rehabilitation of prisoners" Fingers crossed that the expensive stupidly placed prison will do just that and that once their sentences are done, they can lead some type of normal lives again, as the stigma attached to being inside, appears to stick with some people on their release.
