no surprise there then, they should bus them up en mass. by the time they are happy with a travel allowance they will be car sharing and ending up better off. do all civil servants get paid expenses for travelling to work??

Erm, who gets paid paid on here to travel to work?

I bet if there was a poll up on here most, if not all would say no they don't.

Wouldn't a more pertinent question be who on here has had their employer move to the other side of the island, and did they get an recompense in their salary?

Angela Moffat, of Prospect, said: "Our members do not wish to make money out of the relocation.

"Only people who now have extra distance to travel will be compensated for the additional expense they will incur, and only then for an interim period.

Uhh what? Or am I reading that wrong?

I do.

And the best bit is that despite getting extra cash I walk in every day. :D

and it's probably quicker than using your car too?? many a time i have been in the queue from bradden bridge to QB only to have a pedestrian appear in my wing mirror and beat me to QB!! at that point you KNOW the road system is fucked up.

I used to love doing that down Victoria Road to Broadway.

'Officers have been offered 40p per extra mile they will travel over a period of three years, payable in a lump sum'... they already get paid a travel allowance...? THEY GET PAID FOR DRIVING TO WORK? FFS... but noooooo, they want more, coz they have been massively inconvenienced by moving 20 odd miles up the road!

Fookin Tossers. Don't like it, then time to move on.

‘Restructures’, 'relocations' go on all the time in the private sector, and most are happy enough to come out of it with their jobs intact.

Wouldn't know hard times if it bit you on the arse.

Hurrah!, I got intel on this

The petrol allowance is to compensate them for traveling to Jurby.

There are staff who now have to buy a car for work as they used to walk previously.

There is no bus link for staff to reach Jurby (I think it's either 7.00 or 7.30am) in the morning.

They are on call 24 hours a day and have to attend when told to, even at night

Specialist Private contractors can make 73p a mile allowance

MHK's can make 52p a mile

Those staff who live in Ramseyor close to the prison, would not get paid an allowance

Having said all that, none of us will able to afford petrol soon anyway, so any chance that flybee will be flying them in :P

Shock new breaking news!

New Jurby prison is to close - and be turned into appartments.

The contract with Fly MayBe has ben torn up - due to them not getting the extra 7,000 quid they wanted to move a shed to Jurby (thats per mile) from the airport, to house a check in terminal for prison staff.

They will remain in Vic Road, which will get some new net curtains, and a lick of paint to bring it up to modern standards.

After all, it was praised as the best prison in the British Isles in a report in 1907.

Ah but what about the people from Peel, Port Erin, Ramsey, etc who have been travelling to Douglas for years. If they wanted to work at the prison in Douglas they had to get there under there own steam didn't they? I really can't see them getting paid to travel to where they of work.
