It's a nice example of a 10th century pommel and cross (there is another find that is very similar). I saw the images, but I couldn't find an image of the cross guard that had greater detail, does your Uncle have a better image of the cross? This kind of find fascinates me as, if the cross is that shape and not a casting defect then it could well be a sword catcher, very unusual for the period... well if other finds are anything to go by.
