"V"
Ferry sailings between the Isle of Man and Lancashire may be disrupted over the next eight days. It happening every couple of months now. I thought tides were predictable for 100 years so why are the disruptions only announced the week before? I have always thought that Heysham was a second rate port of entry to the UK. Its difficult to get to/from as a foot passenger. The bridge over the Lune and the single carriageway road through Lancaster are real bottle-necks for cars. I think its time the IOMSP looked more radically at their operation via Heysham. Unless Peel Holdings (MDHC) are willing to spread money on dredging the channel things are only going to get worse. TerryMcCann
This is not like the good old days. It wasn't a real summer until we had a Steam Packet vessel beached on a sandbank outside Heysham/Liverpool

english zloty
is it true the 'port' has sold the dredger and so this problem is only gonna get worse? why dont peeps just tell the truth about these things i.e. bollock all to do with tides really
manxman8180
i.e. bollock all to do with tides really What...the depth of the water at a coastal port is nothing to do with the tides? FFS You'll be telling me it is all down to the Moon next. Oh, hang on..........
english zloty
Apologies for not being clear enough [though I honestly thought I was] I'm suggesting that the draft/ freeboard in the harbour entrance is reducing due to lack of maintenance brought about by the offloading of the machine i.e. the dredger, that used to ensure a serviceable depth at all states of tide.. even the ones where gravity has something to do with them
