Nicked from iomtoday, but I think it's a worthy cause that deserves publicity:

Youth Motor Project in need of jump start

INCREASED funding is needed to secure the future of the Youth Motor Project.

Since it began operating in 2000 the YMP has been working with disaffected young people aged 13 to 19, using bikes and cars as the focus for their enthusiasm.

A registered charity, it is based, in temporary buildings, on the site of the former Glen Willow House, Glencrutchery Road, Douglas.

The project is funded by the Department of Education and Department of Home Affairs and by donations from local organisations, including the Public Lottery Trust.

But in light of increasing running costs, the absence of a secure operating base and a lack of storage space restricting development, the management committee is seeking additional funding.

In the past year the scheme, which attracts 40 youths a week, has been extended to involve those aged 11 to 13.

The YMP will hold a presentation evening at the Hilton Hotel, Central Promenade, Douglas, at 6pm on Thursday, June 19, to demonstrate the progress and success of the project, and outline plans for the future.

Members of Tynwald and the project's existing stakeholders have been invited, and anyone who has an interest in the project is welcome.
