Chinahand
Gormless Gordon does it again?! 'Stop wasting food', urges Brown Britons must stop wasting food in an effort to help combat rising living costs, Gordon Brown has said as he travelled to the G8 summit in Japan. He just seems incapable of delivering a message productively. There is much to be said for wasting less food, eating fresh unprocessed foods, recycling, composting etc. But to try to link this with a way out of people's current money worries and the surge in food inflation etc is to invite two fingers from hard pressed families trying to make ends meet. Not clever methinks - do people agree or otherwise?

bluemonday
Not clever methinks - do people agree or otherwise? Agreed Chinahand. Far better that he kept his mouth shut and let people suspect, than to open it and remove all doubt. A pointless anouncement that shows the lack of his capability in dealing with the worry engendered by the current problems and his lack of empathy with the country. Presumably, he'll follow this up with similar sound advice such as not using elecy, gas, water, clothes, keeping/feeding pets etc. In order to demonstrate the principal, I assume he'll be taking sandwiches and a flask on the trip to G8. leeiom
totally agree, I have never been much of a person to have an opinion about general politics, but that fat jowley jockistani really winds me up with his usual pointless statements!

Albert Tatlock
Not sure what everyone's problem is here? Gordon Broon. Gordon is a moron. He'd be better employed by the army in Iraq, as he is very effective at finding landmines to stand on.
Chinahand
Not sure what everyone's problem is here? Because telling someone who is facing mortgage arrears, a massively increasing fuel bill and the weekly budget going no where near as far as it used to that not throwing away that out-of-date ready meal is any sort of a solution is close to being prepostorous. Rejectionist ideas are all very well, but where will solutions come from - or are you Mr Karran?

Chinahand
I think what is in red is useful and worthwhile. The rest is window dressing and spin and detracts from the overall message. Britons must stop wasting food in an effort to help combat rising living costs, Gordon Brown has said as world leaders discuss rising prices The PM said "unnecessary" purchases were contributing to price rises, and urged people to plan meals in advance and store food properly. ... Speaking to reporters, Gordon Brown said the G8 needed to agree a "global plan" to tackle the issue. "People recognise that the high food prices in Britain - the price of bread, the price of eggs, the price of milk - this is happening all over the world and we have got to have a global solution to what is a global problem," he said. "We have got to get the price of food down through cutting the tariffs and subsidies in Europe and America, so we need a world trade deal. "We have proposed that we double food production in Africa so that they can sell to the rest of the world as well. "It is right to remind people that about £8 a week is wasted in our food consumption and we could do better at home as well." Who's got the message the wrong way round - the media or Gordon? Even if its the media, the fault is with government delivery for allowing a message about trade liberalization and economic empowerment be distorted into a simplistic message about the role of unnecessary purchases, and meal planning in tightening family budgets.
