Sebrof
Fairtrade is wrong-headed. By paying some suppliers more, you are encouraging them to produce more. This extra production increases supply, and thereby lowers prices for all those suppliers (the majority) who are nor fortunate enough to benefit from a Fairtrade deal. So it actually makes the problem worse.
triskelion
That would be the case if Fairtrade occupied more than a niche market. In any case, perhaps it would persuade the non-Fairtrade farmers to try growing something else?

Are you volunteering to go out and give them the know-how and provide the equipment, seeds etc. to enable them to grow something they've never heard of? Good on yer.
