Banking Security

I received an e-mail (genuine) today from moneysupermarket.com notifying me of the UK's best savings rates.

I was amazed in these days of worry about the security of British banks such as Bradford and Bingley that they are recommending a 7.12% fixed term bond with Firstsave - First Bank of Nigeria. (http://www.fbnbank.co.uk/)

Can you imagine all the lovely spam you'll get from plane crash orphans 10 minutes after you've set the account up.

Are these comparison sites getting desparate for business? Why on earth would anyone who is not completely mentally ill consider sticking even 10p into such an account?

First Bank of Nigeria is one of the Nigeria's oldest financial institutions founded in 1894 as Bank of British WestAfric a and listed on the Nigeria Stock Exchange in 1971. The bank currently has the largest network in the country and also offers offshore financial services through it London branch which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority. The banks assets are in the excess of N100billion.. Hardly seems a risk eh?

Are you tarring them with the same brush, because the word Nigeria is in the title? Next you'll be telling us 'they all look the same'....

No, I did offer my services as a tour guide but after a few replies he went quiet. I was looking forward to escorting him about his 'kingdom' and allowing people to touch him hem. I even offered to take him to a local hostelry known as the 'Rosemount' to meet his subjects.
