St John's Resident Weedon

Fossils

Recommended Posts

I've copied this from Manx Radio News and wondered, before I come out from under the stairs, if there is any record of previous hits on the Island. This ice fall was obviously a block of "blue ice". I'll not stoop so low as to comment on any unfortunate and coincidental pun in the article.................

(Wiki: Blue ice in the context of aviation refers to ice formed by leaks in commercial aircraft lavatory waste tanks, a concoction of human waste and liquid disinfectant that freezes at high altitude)

A St John's resident is thanking her lucky stars after her house was struck by a bolt from the blue.

Betty Weedon was in her bungalow on the Balladoyne estate when it was hit by a football-sized block of ice.

It's thought the ice fell from a passing aircraft, and fortunately it only damaged the roof before coming to rest in her loft.

Betty's home suffered only minor damage, but she says it was quite a shock (audio file attached):

The ice crashed through Mrs Weedon's roof on Wednesday of last week."
