manxman8180
And what on earth is this "scale" you are imagining John and Gladys? I think JW has explained it perfectly clearly. It's just that you don't, or maybe won't, understand.
John Wright
%age and others read what i said very carefully There used to be a litigation scale pre 2000. My illustration was how unfair it was to successful litigants. There also used to be a fixed conveyancing scale. There is now a maximum conveyancing scale and a set of rules for assessment of costs ordered to be paid What my client has agreed to pay me ioperates as a ceiling, I cannot recover ant greater sum Then it starts at legal aid and adds on percentages for complexity, speed, importance, amount involved etc and the payiong party can challenge. I have recently reduced a £190,000 billl to £95.000 on behalf of a client
