Newsbot
Two people are carried to safety and another two are escorted through the water after being cut off by the tide at the Tower of Refuge. slinkydevil
Just ban people from the tower or charge them for the rescues. I can't believe how common this happens.
Albert Tatlock
Just ban people from the tower or charge them for the rescues. I can't believe how common this happens. That must be well over a dozen people rescued in recent months. Personally I think they should ban people going on it, unless it is on an 'official' tour via a boat - perhaps MNH could licence a small operator. Otherwise all sorts of scrotes may start damaging or graffiiting the tower.
mollag
Perhaps we could build a shelter for people trapped, something where they would be safe untill the tide drops and they can make their own way back. Hmmm but what would we call it?
pamplemousse
I agree with slinkydevil - the dummies who get stuck should cough up the rescue cost. If you don't know the basics of how tides work I don't know if you should even be living on an island, let alone footling around the Tower of Refuge. Cret
Agreed. It's not fair to ban people from going there because of a handful of gormless clowns. They should pay instead.
Mr. Sausages
A lot of the 'rescues' have just been the coastguard looking for something to do. No need to ban people from going there. If they phone to be rescued, charge 'em. If they don't, leave 'em to it.
Billsmurf
Would i be right in thinking that at one time, many years ago, at low water, the only way one could get onto the Tower was by a rowing boat from the Victoria Pier area.
monasqueen
Survival of the fittest - leave them to find their own way off when the tide drops. They managed to get out there unassisted....
Hilda Ogden
I also remember many years back, that there were little rowing boats going back n forth to the tower, in those days u never heard of people walking/swimming out to it and getting stuck. I think people who get stranded should stay there til the tide changes and let them make their own way back, they wouldnt be ina hurry to do it again and also the people who call the coastguard should be maid to pay, after all it is self inflicted and I am sure that there isnt that much on the tower to distract them from keeping an eye on the tide. Also many years back did the tower light up at night?
