Why can't we have some proper police like the ones in London, Manchester or New York?

 

 

To be honest, the day we NEED police like that, it will be a sad day on the Island. If I didn't have the attitude I have, I would have thought about applying. But to be honest, the last thing the Island needs is yet another shortarse copper with a chip on his shoulder.

 

I would consider contracting work though, pay per pimp or something like that?

To which my mother replied "Because we couldn't get it up the steps".

 

Suffice to say he didn't get the joke or see what a stupid question he had asked.

 

This plod then went on to be Acting Sergeant which was appropriate as I am sure he was just impersonating a police officer. He can't have been for real.

 

To make it even funnier his surname is Best. If he's the best then the worst must be f*cking useless.....

Citizen focus, investigating crime and leadership and direction were all rated as ‘good’ while all other areas including crime reduction, promoting safety, providing assistance and use of resources were rated ‘fair’."

 

If was Chief Constable I would be ashamed that my force only rated fair for crime reduction and providing assistance. Are these not priorities for any police force?

 

Surely you would want investigating crime to rate as excellent?

 

And wtf is Citizen Focus? Plod being able to see people when they are out and about?

 

"The report praises the Constabulary for developing neighbourhood policing and its work with local authorities. It highlights that foot patrols increased by 8.3% on the previous year and that its high visibility approach is deterring anti-social behaviour and providing community reassurance."

 

This says to me that previously there were too many plod driving aimlessly around or sitting on their ar$es in Glencrutchery Road or Lord Street when they should have been out on the streets.

This does not represent excellent performance. This just shows the local population commit half the number of crimes per head of population than the population in England and Wales. That is to do with the population not the performance of the plod.

 

It still means 4,350 (56.5 x 77) recorded crimes per year on the island which averages out to 84 (83.66) a week so roughly 12 per day. Would be interesting to know how many crimes are unreported for whatever reason, though.

 

‘During the year the Constabulary achieved a detection rate of 43.2%. This represents a significant increase from that achieved in 2004/05 when the detection rate was 38.8% (average over the last three years of 35.6%). The average detection rate in England and Wales is 26%. Again this is excellent performance.’

 

This is also not good. If the plod here have half the number of crimes per head of population their clear up rate should be twice as much for the same amount of work as the plod across and evidently it isn't.

 

12 crimes per day for the combined might of the IOM Constabulary to solve and they solve 5 of them. Excellent performance, hmmmmm??

 

Mind you, most of the time they are on sick leave, gardening leave or suspended (or not being jailed for drink driving) so we shouldn't be surprised they solve less than half the recorded crime on the island.

 

And who gets sent the Satisfaction Survey? The 43.5% whose crime has been solved or the 56.5% who have been let down?????

But still. Lets get a bigger picture on this. Do away with the Police and what would you have. Anarchy. You try to rob me, my family, my house, piss me off, i get to shoot you in the face and not get done, cool, bring it on.

 

These would be the same people, i think, that if they saw someone getting mugged, robbed, beaten up, a house broken into, a car robbed, would walk on past and not get involved. Maybe the same poeple who would give an alibi about a family member. Yet so much scorn is given towards the Police who , most, try to make a difference. At least they try.

 

Admmitadly there are some right arseholes in there, but for the greater are good people.

 

I think the new Chief Constable has more " Street cred " than any off the complete aresoles who have gone before. He seems to be more off a Community person.

Just to add some to the argument, a few years ago my driver side window was broken in manchester by some scroat who nicked only my mobile phone holder, the police never bothered attending even though there was blood on the glass, all they gave me was an incident number for insurance. Now to go back to the incident mentioned on Broadway, just over a year ago my car was parked on the junction of that and Derby Rd, I came out next morning to find that agin the drivers window was smashed and a fair bit of blood around, I called the police, a WPC was there withing 5 minutes, she called forensics as soon as she saw the blood, she then made a call to check with nobles if anyone had been to A&E with injuries likely to be cause by glass and then proceeded to follow a trail of blood up the road to where it stopped, she then asked control to check taxi firms to see if they had picked anyone bleeding from the area. Within 20 minutes forensics came and took samples. Now this WPC kept me informed of progress for several weeks until a DNA result came in and she went to arrest the scroat who did it, without going into details it seems the breakage was not fully intentional but he offered to pay for all damage, valeting of the car and the cost of a hire car whilst I awaited a new glass for 4 days, plus a few bob in comensation if i didn;t prosecute. This of course I agreed to, but the point is I cannot fault the service I got from this officer who went far behond what I expected and hell of a lot more then I would of got from any UK force, so much so that I wrote to the Chief Constable and asked him to thank the officer for her work.

The slanderous allegation is was made by you that we claimed on the insurance for the broken window. We did not. The offender paid for the window and the insurance company were not involved.

We do not, as again you incorrectly infer, go to Spain for the winter. We ran the hotel for the laughably known tourist season and then in the winter spent the takings decorating and renovating the property.

 

If we'd sodded off to Spain like a lot of the local shithouse owners my parents would not have been able to earn enough to retire after five years from running an upmarket establishment. A lot of the locals have been running their establishments for decades and don't have a pot to piss in. Some of us know how to run a successful business.

 

My parents got out of the business as the Tourism Ministers who have been in place since we have been here David Cretney (Manx) and Adrian Earnshaw (also Manx) have systematically killed the tourist trade by only caring about the TT and letting all the other tourist attractions (trains, trams, heritage, walking etc) go to rack and ruin.

If the £10 a night shithole you refer to on Broadway is the one I am thinking of, you are right I stayed in it for 3 weeks when I first came over, It is a grubby flea pit owned by some tight fisted jock who wont spend money on it and leaves it to some greek woman to run it for him.
