The Canadians are to search for the wrecks of British ships HMS Erebus and HMS Terror which were trapped in the Arctic ice as Sir John Franklin sought a northern route from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

Obviously there's a political edge to this as the Arctic has potential for energy sources and various countries are trying to establish claims but it's still an interesting project given that no one knows what actually happened to the ships themselves.
