The seas are inlaid with a variety of hand cut pieces of minerals and semi-precious stones to accurately depict each country. These stones include turquoise, tiger eye, green jade, white onyx and mother of pearl. In total over 40 different varieties of stones are used. The outlines of the countries are silk screened on to the globe and the stones are then cut and fixed in place by hand. Twisted gilded wire is used to show the main lines of longitude and latitude.
