Graculus
In the context of anything that's important to people on the Island, doesn't it seem that the major protagonists always take a mututal vow of omerta. For instance, we have endless news items about the perils of pongo the pitbull but little about the possible scandal surrounding a major school. The head is suspended but why? Surely, the reasons behind the suspension and investigation need not remain a secret prior to any further action? A news (?) item surrounds MHKs and the unnecessary call-out of search and rescue teams recently but why were they on the Calf in the first instance? Team bonding exercise at our expense? How much did it cost? Why were they out & about late at night, were they dancing around a fire practising a satanic ritual? The feed of information to people here is pathetic and the attitude of those responsible is disgraceful but never mind, we have the oldest government in the world - something to be proud of. Stu Peters
John Moss reported on the Calf of Man story on this morning's Mandate programme (Manx Radio FM 0730-0830). The Department of Education controls the flow of information on the other story - it's not unusual for the main players in an unfolding situation to keep their powder dry whilst negotiations/discussions are ongoing. So - no conspiracy theory....move along. The early listener catches the news worm...

I was the sacrificial virgin, so it was very cheap.
Declan
MHK's! You can't take them anywhere. Put them on an uninhabited island and they still cost the taxpayer thousands.
Sidney
MHK's! You can't take them anywhere. Put them on an uninhabited island and they still cost the taxpayer thousands. A strong contender for post of the year
fishkettle
Seeing the billboard outside a newsagent today made me laugh - something along the lines of 'Absent Head, Parents Want Answers'. God forbid that someone is actually capable of doing their job and producing a headline to the effect of 'Castle Rushen Head, We Reveal the Truth'. Perhaps we could all club together and have IOM newspapers employ a NOTW journalist? I'm sure we'd have a bit more dirt digging exciting news to read then "manx independant on sunday" perhaps... Graculus
No conspiracy theories here Mr. Peters. Merely commenting on the piss-poor standard of news reporting / journalsim that seems to prevail. FFS you refer to the DOE 'controlling' the flow of information - is every journalist on the Island a lap dog of that and other government departments? Seeing the billboard outside a newsagent today made me laugh - something along the lines of 'Absent Head, Parents Want Answers'. God forbid that someone is actually capable of doing their job and producing a headline to the effect of 'Castle Rushen Head, We Reveal the Truth'. However, at least we're all clued up now on the perils of pongo and the dog that barked at night at the red lights in the sky!
Rocketman
I find the most reliable and investigative journalism comes from here these days ! http://www.longtaletv.com/ Having said that, most of the journos's from IOM news have left recently which might have something to do with it ! Snaipyr
Investigative journalism on the IOM ended with Roly Drower.

homarus
MHK's! You can't take them anywhere. Put them on an uninhabited island and they still cost the taxpayer thousands. A reliable source tells me that it actually took hem two days to report the incident! The first day was spent forming a committee to discuss the sighting and the second voting in a five man , Sub--committee to report back on the findings of the Committee
