I for one hope he can make a difference, we need one. We have an Island of diversity where much that goes on is not reported, we have an Ilsand where some think corruption is endemic but we have no investigative journalism.

Any editor worth his salt would have had a Polish page, South African page and run much better reports on the political and economic scandals of the last decade

I just hope that he won't be seen as and indeed belong to the esatblishment what with daddy an MLC and uncle First Deemster and Deputy Governor

With those credentials perhpas he will know he has to prove his independence and work hard to put us in the picture

They should stop employing 5 year olds to type the news.

Such things as 'went on fire' and 'spelled correctly' in any news paper, should just not make it to print.

'Jobs Blow' on the other hand - which appeared a while ago on the front page - was a mile stone in headline reporting IMHO.

You sure that wasn't 'Blow Jobs'?

Need serious journo's. Walked past WHSmiths yesterday and the placard out front in big brassy letters heralded 'Woman gives birth in a car.' Manx news is shite, now it seems women are giving birth in cars or kids are scratching them, imagine if you can the storm around 'Woman gives birth in car whilst Pully sprog scratches it, how can the woman cope that her cat is missing too, moggy is suspected to be hiding in a tree, picture on page three!' God love us, each and everyone, let us not have important things to worry about.

To be honest all local news is shite whether it's in the Isle of Man or elsewhere ...just look at the equivalents 'rags' when you're in the UK next time.

The same goes for radio as well ...tune in to local radio in the UK and you'll see it's just as appalling as it is here. At the end of the day you have to pay for talent and 'local' news/entertainment is an area where there just isn't any money hence people who think they are talented end up doing the job.

True but I do think it might be cleverly done. How quaint that the most serious thing to happen this week is a woman giving birth in a Ford Cortina, so tourists then go and say about how nice the island is and crime rate is at a level where the front page handled the illegal flooding of a car when waters broke on a pregnant woman.

Right, that's it...

I'm going to start a news agency concentrating on all the drive-by shootings, bank robberies, celebrity bust-ups and thwarted terrorist plots here.

Clearly what's ACTUALLY happening in the Island just isn't enough.
