You should be ashamed of your self. Right, I've said it...back to cutting the tails off cats.

Yes, but the point is the marketing should match up with the reality of what people find when they come here. Wishful thinking doesn't make things happen. manshimajin
Good luck to the staff of the DTL in promoting the IoM as a conference venue. We certainly need this type of business to increase. The concerns that I have are that: Conference promotion is a highly professional business targeted primarily (but not exclusively) at the private sector - how well equipped are the public service to do this? Is the IoM equipped for larger conferences? My impression is that we are really not in the ball-park in terms of tranport, accommodation and conference facilites for big events. Where are we attracting conferences from? Whole of UK? Northern England? Elsewhere? (see the DTL list of 2007 conferences below) Should we focus strongly on the small/medium end of the market where we have a reasonable offering? What do we need to compete on? Cost? Quality? Convenience? Facilities? Access? Motivational aspects of venue? In other words we need to identify our niche and go for it! I am not sure that the Minister telling us locally how great a venue we've got is the best promotional strategy. List of Conferences and participant numbers held on the IOM in 2007 - DTL dataDepartment of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry Marine Conference 25 Isle of Man Shipping Seminar 40 Honda Leadership Seminar 20 Telecom Operators of Small States 40 IBS Ship Superintendents 12 American Travel Writers Convention 17 American Travel Writers Convention 12 UK Police & Customs Enforcers Wildlife Conference 120 British Association of Perinatal Medicine 150 Jehovah's Witness Convention 635 Southern Waste Management Partnership (Northern Ireland) 26 Clerical Medical 25 University of Huddersfield - IOM TT Races, Heritage Spirit and Place 35 British Medical Association 44 Conference of Peripheral & Maritime Regions 100 Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes 106 Edited to include list of 'future' conferences from DTL website: DTL Conference List We are certainly popular with the Jehovah's Witnesses. The DTL have a buget to advertise conferences off island yet nearly half of all the conferences are IOM government related anyway!
